Where do you get dinner on Ocean Street on a Monday night in October? A year ago the answer pointed to different addresses. Ocean House Coastal Grille was still serving at 1899 Ocean St. The restaurant at 291 Ocean St. had just gone through a fire, and many people expected it to come back. In fall 2026 the answer looks different. The places on this stretch with the longest posted hours are mostly in one plaza. The corner many people still call Haddad's has no reopening date. And the most important date on the strip this month is a meeting about sand in the harbor channel.
The plaza at 1899 Ocean St.
The Shops at Ocean's Gate had a turnover this year. Ocean House Coastal Grille closed at 1899 Ocean St. on Saturday, January 24, 2026, after two years. The Patriot Ledger reported the closing and noted that the announcement gave no reason.
Salty Days Fish Co. took over the space. Its owners told WhatNow Boston that Marshfield is their hometown. They promised the menu their regulars knew, plus a full bar: signature sushi, poke bowls, fresh salads, creative rolls and hearty sandwiches. The business started in Hingham in October 2020 and opened in Cohasset two years later. The original Hingham shop closed in September 2023. The company's location page now lists Marshfield alongside 85 South Main St. in Cohasset.
Its hours are what matter for the fall. The Salty Days location page lists kitchen hours of 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Sunday through Thursday and 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. on Friday and Saturday. That is a stated closing time every night of the week, Monday included.
Baya Bar is in the same plaza at 1899 Ocean St., Unit M, and lists daily hours of 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Its fall 2026 menu launched September 3. The post doesn't give a season-end date for the store. Between the two businesses, the plaza covers the day from an 8 a.m. smoothie bowl to a 9 p.m. poke bowl.
How the rest of the strip lists its hours
Down the street, most places post a different kind of schedule. Some keep morning hours. Some say outright that they are open all year. Some post regular hours without saying whether those hold through winter. The table below shows what each business posts. Pages without a date are labeled that way.
| Place | Address | Posted hours | What the posting says about the season |
|---|---|---|---|
| Salty Days Fish Co. | 1899 Ocean St. | Kitchen Sun–Thu 11 a.m.–9 p.m.; Fri–Sat 11 a.m.–10 p.m. | Current location page |
| Baya Bar | 1899 Ocean St., Unit M | Daily 8 a.m.–6 p.m. | Fall menu launched Sept. 3; no end date posted |
| The Jetty | 278 Ocean St. | Closed Mon; Tue–Thu 4–9 p.m.; Fri 4 p.m.–1 a.m.; Sat 11:30 a.m.–1 a.m.; Sun 9 a.m.–9 p.m. | Says it is open year-round |
| Brant Rock Hop | Brant Rock | Mon–Tue and Thu–Sat 7 a.m.–2 p.m.; Sun 7 a.m.–1 p.m.; closed Wed | Undated; lists Thanksgiving, Christmas and Easter closures |
| Coffee Shack | 259 Dyke Rd. | Daily 5 a.m.–1 p.m. | Undated; no seasonal notice |
| Green Harbor Bar & Grill | Safe Harbor Green Harbor | Daily 11:30 a.m. until close | No year-round statement |
| Levitate Backyard | 1871 Ocean St. | See below | Seasonal, May through October |
| Green Harbor Lobster Pound | 131 Beach St. | None posted | Closed for the season |
The Jetty at 278 Ocean St. makes the clearest year-round promise of any business here. Its kitchen hours are shorter than its bar hours: 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday through Thursday, 11:30 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Friday and Saturday, and 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Sunday. Sunday is the one day it opens in the morning.
The morning places close early. Brant Rock Hop closes by 2 p.m. and is closed Wednesdays. Coffee Shack on Dyke Road opens at 5 a.m. and closes at 1 p.m. Coffee Shack also made the North and South Rivers Watershed Association's fall piece on pairing walks with doughnut shops, which shows it is on the coastal-walk circuit after summer ends.
Two places have finished or are finishing their seasons. Green Harbor Lobster Pound at 131 Beach St. says it is closed for the season and hopes to return next year. Levitate Backyard at 1871 Ocean St. describes itself as a May-through-October venue and hasn't posted a final date for 2026. Its site also lists two different schedules: daily 3 to 10 p.m. for the "Restaurant + Venue," and Thursday through Sunday, 3 to 11 p.m., for the Backyard. The Levitate surf shop at the same address posts daily hours of 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. The next Backyard event on the Levitate events calendar is the Flannel Jam this Saturday, October 10, from 4 to 9 p.m.
The corner that hasn't reopened
The table doesn't include the building most people on this stretch would look for first. The restaurant at 291 Ocean St., long known as Haddad's Ocean Cafe, has been closed since a three-alarm fire on August 1, 2025. On April 24, 2026, The Patriot Ledger reported that it would stay closed through the summer season. The restaurant's own website now carries the newest wording, though the page has no date:
"will remain closed for the foreseeable future"
The site says the owners are working diligently on it. It gives no reopening date and no construction schedule. According to WCVB's coverage at the time, the cause of the fire was still undetermined.
The closure matters for the off-season because of what the new owners had planned. In January 2025, the Select Board approved the name Brant Rock Ocean Cafe, and the owners told the South Shore Times the new concept was meant to support a year-round brand. The fire came about seven months later. The building that was supposed to anchor this stretch in winter is the one with no timeline, so 1899 Ocean St. now carries most of the posted late hours.
The October date that matters most is about the harbor
The restaurants change with the season. So does the harbor channel, and this fall the federal government has a specific proposal for it.
On September 28, 2026, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, New England District, published a public notice for a navigation improvement at Green Harbor. Hydrographic surveys found the channel filling with sand, especially in the area known as the Narrows. The notice says that shallow water makes navigation less efficient and raises the risk of boats running aground. The Corps's preferred plan is an in-channel sediment basin: a 100-foot-wide section of the federal channel deepened to -10 feet MLLW. The plan involves about 26,900 cubic yards of dredging across roughly 152,600 square feet. The basin is meant to leave room for sand to collect without blocking boats, so the channel would need maintenance dredging less often.
The plan also covers where the sand would go. The notice describes the material as clean and sandy. It would be placed at the Green Harbor Nearshore Site, about half a mile south of the channel, where it would stay in the littoral system and could drift landward to nourish nearby beaches. The work would use a mechanical bucket dredge, with scows carrying the sand to the placement site. The Town of Marshfield is the local sponsor of the study.
This is still a proposal. A draft Detailed Project Report and Environmental Assessment is posted on the Corps's Green Harbor project page. The District's preliminary determination is that a full Environmental Impact Statement isn't required, and that determination will be reviewed against the comments it receives.
Two dates to know:
- Wednesday, October 28, 5 to 7 p.m.: hybrid open house in the Emergency Operations Center at the Marshfield Police Department, 1639 Ocean St.
- Thursday, October 29: the comment period closes.
The open house is on the same road as the restaurants above.
The rest of the fall calendar, a few miles inland
Marshfield's fall weekends also move inland. Here are the dates on the calendar now:
- Saturday, October 17, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.: Cars & Copters at the Marshfield Fairgrounds, presented by QCarCare and FlyMyRide. The fair's event page says the event was moved to this date, with October 18 as the rain date.
- Saturday, October 17 and Saturday, November 21, 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.: the indoor farmers' market at the fairgrounds, with about 20 local farmers, chefs, artisans and food vendors. The Marshfield Agricultural and Horticultural Society sponsors it, according to the Marshfield Fair site.
- Thursday, November 26, 7 to 10 a.m.: the Boys & Girls Club Turkey Trot, listed on the Town of Marshfield event page.
Brant Rock Hop lists Thanksgiving among its holiday closures, so plan around that if you want breakfast after the Turkey Trot.
